Day Three: Reflections

Today, we finished up our Protein Assay Lab by compiling our data into curves on a graph in groups of three. We learned about standard deviation and how accuracy counts, but sometimes mistakes are made. We also learned about pills with time releases that release a tiny amount of medicine at certain times and stages while in the body. This included a lab where everyone made capsules in a bottle and allowed everyone to see the creative side of engineering. The afternoon consisted of a visit to the Rowan University where we learned about Biomechanics. We learned how important seat belts really are and the relation between biomedical engineering and car safety. We finished our visit by seeing the sled testing machine where human volunteers can help engineers see the impact (no pun intended) of low speed collisions. This included some of the students testing the machine for themselves. Most of them were caught by surprise by how fast it actually was, but they thought it was fun. We were able to see how broad the study of Biomedical Engineering by experiencing different aspects through our activities today.
